Where Women Belong Where Women Belong is an interactive space dedicated to Women’s Role in the Irish Revolution.

Profiling four revolutionary women, Margaret Skinnider, Constance Markievicz, Kathleen Clarke, and Jenny Wyse Power. Where Women Belong aims to spotlight their essential contribution to Irish Independence, one which was undoubtedly diminished by the men they fought alongside and historians alike.

The interactive experience takes the form of a period kitchen the audience must search through for information about the women of the rising. Dramatized audio clips alongside written information give the women life and presence. The kitchen, a traditional beacon of femininity and domesticity, contains nods to their radical lives in the décor and contents. The hidden profiles of these women may only be revealed by taking a closer look at the space, and equally, history.

Designed in collaboration with Aisling Gaffney, Isabel Duignan, Jaime Craig, Marion Healy, and Roisin Lavin.

The project was realised physically on a small scale at the Unlikely Stories exhibition held in NCAD in December 2023.
